According to audit commission Thurrock Council is most improved in the country

THURROCK is the most improved council for Children and Young People in England - according to the Audit Commission.

The latest figures contain information from the last financial year (2007-08) and show that it “is ranked first out of 150 for the percentage of Performance Indicators (PIs) improved in the last three years”, with improvement in all its PIs over that time.

“This is great news,” said Councillor Sue MacPherson, Thurrock’s Cabinet member for Children’s Services.

“Performance Indicators are the Government’s method of monitoring the way councils carry out their duties and this highlights the fact that Thurrock Council has children and young people’s lives at the top of its agenda.

“The Audit Commission looked at a series of PIs, from the percentage of 15-year-olds achieving five or more GCSE grads A* to C - where we achieved our best-ever results this summer - to the percentage of pupils achieving Level 5 or above in Key Stage 2 English results.”

She added: “But it’s not just about school improvement. The commission also examines PIs for children in care and child protection, and here too the results have improved over the past three years.”
