Kent Lorry driver threatened, tied, and robbed at gunpoint in Thurrock

A LORRY driver confronted by thieves in Thurrock was tied up and robbed after being threatened with a gun and forced to drive across Essex.

The 39-year-old man from Kent collected a load containing toys, which were destined for Argos shops, and £39,000 of Wild Turkey Whisky, from the Isle of Grain in Kent and was due to travel north to deliver it.

But when he stopped at Moto Services in Thurrock, a man approached him and asked to use his mobile phone and as he went back to his lorry he was confronted by a second man who threatened him and told him he had a gun.

The lorry driver was then ordered to drive off and stop at two unknown locations before finally being told to pull up in a lay-by where two containers were unloaded from the lorry onto another lorry.

The frightened victim, whose arms and legs were taped together, was later found in a distressed state at 10.40am in Ongar Road, Fyfield.

His attackers are described as white.

One man is 6ft 2ins tall and wore a beanie hat and a high visibility jacket. The second man is 5ft 7ins and showed the victim the barrel of what he believed to be a gun.

Det Sgt Michelle Conner from Tilbury CID said: "I would like to hear from anyone offered toys or whisky in unusual circumstances. The thieves got away with about £39,000 of Wild Turkey Whisky, which is not a well known brand."

Anyone with information about the incident on Wednesday, November 5, or who saw the silver Mercedes cab, which had a panda cuddly toy in the cab window and was towing a trailer with two separate containers, both around 20ft long, is asked to contact Tilbury CID on 0300 333 4444.

One of the containers was blue and the other was red with numbers on the side.
