It is interesting to note how town planning in this late Victorian period included the provision of local shops! The shop keeper is William Everson – his name is printed above the main shop door and the window to the left is full of provisions for sale.
The local directory for 1910 shows he was a grocer, but from the window display I suggest he was also a general provisions merchant.
Interestingly you can see a horse and cart coming up East Street and the cart wheel trails can be seen in the unmade road.
Also note the three ladies with there bicycles a popular mode of transport and hobby of the Edwardian period.
I have not been to see this street scene so I am not sure if the shop is still operating after 100 years!
