Many will remember the car ferry up until the early 1960's when the Dartford Tunnel eliminated the service need. However the various passenger ferries continued up to date with the current Duchess M.
Do you remember the names of the other ferries?
I wonder what memories of travelling on the ferries reader's have and for what reason people used the service. Any memories or reminiscences will be most welcome.
HISTORY FEEDBACK:
Thanks to several responses from Thurrock Gazette readers, I am almost ready to feature both the Corringham Shrimp factory and the local connection of Eileen Fowler the founder of women's keep fit movement. Both will be featured soon in Down Memory Lane, so any last minute memories or photographs will be welcome.
Thanks also to all those who visited our Windrush open day and tours at the International Cruise terminal on Saturday.
HISTORY FACT OF THE WEEK:
27th June, 1556: Henry Wye, Brewer from Stanford-le-Hope, burned at the stake at Stratford with 12 other people.
