Thurrock Police Officer Julie Facey who has two driving convictions escapes speeding ban

A DETECTIVE caught doing 68mph in a 40mph limit in Thurrock has escaped a driving ban.

Det Con Julie Facey, a trained police driver, was caught in Lower Dunton Road, near Stanford-le-Hope.

Facey, of Stanford, claimed she had been looking for her grandmother, who suffers from dementia and had gone missing.

Facey, a detective with the Metropolitan Police based in Havering, already had two convictions, from May 2005 and June of this year.

She admitted speeding when she appeared at Basildon Magistrates’ Court.

Her solicitor Mark Jerman said she faced a disciplinary hearing if she lost her licence.

Facey was fined £375 and ordered to pay £60 costs.
