Thurrock Students clean up school grounds to encourage wildlife

STUDENTS at William Edwards School in Grays have been cleaning up the Primrose Island area of their school grounds in order to bring in new life.

Students from Year Nine recently visited Yorkshire in an educational ecology trip studying the local area.

The Primrose Island area even holds an authentic Saxon hut – which was burned down but later rebuilt – along with a fence made with tree branches around the pond.

The whole area has been renewed in the hope nature will thrive in it.

The students cut down undergrowth, built a hibernacula and cleaned the steps leading down to the area.

Another visit will be made by the Essex Wildlife Trust on November 4 to continue working on the project.
