Burma Star Association thanked

MEMBERS of the Thurrock branch of the Burma Star Association were treated to a slap-up meal on Thursday October 30.

They were invited to the Mayor’s Parlour in the Civic Offices, New Road, Grays, for a civic “thank-you” for the work they do locally.

Among those at the lunch with the Mayor of Thurrock, Coun John Everett, was Mrs Ruth Mackinlay, wife of Thurrock MP Andrew, Lord Petre, the Lord Lieutenant of Essex, and Albert England, president of the branch and his wife Win.

The mayor thanked the association for their work with local veterans of the Second World War Burma campaign and presented them with a rose bowl in recognition of their work.

On it are the words: “In recognition of the special regard with which Thurrock Council holds the Burma Star Association and the support the Association has provided for those involved in the Burma Campaign 1941-1945”.

Mr and Mrs England then presented the mayor with a wooden shield with Burma Star Association and crest on it.
