Dozens of Nuisance motorbikes seized in Thurrock

A DOZEN motorcycles and quad-bikes have been seized across Thurrock in recent months.

Thurrock Council’s Cabinet member for Public Protection, Coun Ben Maney revealed the figure at a meeting of the full council on Wednesday October 29.

Responding to a question from Coun Rob Gledhill regarding nuisance motorbikes, Coun Maney said: “Actions by the council include joint operations with police in Orsett Heath, Blackshots, Chadwell St Mary, East Tilbury, Linford and Stanford-le-Hope.

“As a result of our determined and co-ordinated action, between April and October 26, there have been 12 seizures of motorcycles and quad bikes in various locations.”

He added that 59 formal warnings - which must be issued before a vehicle can be seized - had been handed out in the same time.

Coun Maney said the council was working with the police in a multi-agency group to combat the nuisance of motorcycles and actions include the installation of sand traps and knee-high barriers at Orsett Heath to dissuade motorbikes from using this site.

The installation of A-frame gates between Blackshots and Orsett Heath as well as knee-high barriers there and the installation of sand traps to restrict access to the sea wall at Stanford-le-Hope as well as the use of CCTV.
