A THURROCK woman has achieved her dream of conquering the Great Wall of China in aid of disability charity, Scope.
Kirsty Forbes, 22, of Queen Mary Avenue, East Tilbury, has seen in person one of the few manmade objects visible from space and trekked China’s Great Wall to raise more than £3,400 for Scope.
She was inspired to take up the challenge by her boyfriend Michael Patterson’s sister, Rachel, who has cerebral palsy.
Over a five-day period in September, she hiked along some of the most spectacular sections of the Great Wall and through remote villages.
Kirsty said: “This China trek was a fantastic way of doing something amazing for a really great cause.
“I’d recommend it to everyone – not only did I get to visit one of the most exciting cities in the world and experience some of the Chinese culture, but I know that the money raised will help Scope support disabled people to achieve equality.
“In particular, I would like to thank St Thomas’ of Canterbury Primary School, Grays and the Kings Head Inn, West Tilbury for helping me to raise a large portion of the money.”
If anyone thinks they are up to this type of challenge and wants to see the most recent Olympic city, then Scope is still signing up participants to the Great Wall of China trek in September 2009.
