Playground dream becomes a reality for Fobbing boy Ryan Hildrew

A FOBBING boy has seen his dream and hard work come true as the first phase of the development of Fobbing Recreational ground was launched.

Ryan Hildrew, 12, wanted to see aging play equipment updated and took up the project while he was still at primary school, badgering Thurrock Council to provide new equipmejt for various age groups.

On Thursday October 30, he was joined by friends and parents to see what was being provided and described what he saw as “excellent”.

The first phase of the Fobbing Playbuilder scheme also included the planting of 25 trees to represent each of the council’s Play builder sites in Thurrock as well as masses of daffodils to form a maze - one of Ryan’s ideas.

Also at the launch was Nick Tremlett, managing director of HAGS Play, the company that provided the equipment.

He explained that the main piece was the first of its kind in this country, a combination of different materials, colours and activities.

The scheme includes many of the features that children from the area had asked for in a consultation carried out at Corringham Primary School.

The parents have offered additional support to help maintain the site.

Councillor Ian Harrison, who represents the Corringham and Fobbing ward on Thurrock Council, said: “This is a tremendous facility for the young people of Fobbing, strong and robust yet inviting at the same time.

“It’s great to see the young people having fun here and equally good to know how the council has worked with local people of all ages to provide facilities they want.”
