
Successful students at Hassenbrook School in Hassenbrook Road attended their Annual Awards Presentation Evening recently in the company of Sir Graham Bright, chair of governors and ex-pupil of the school.
Headteacher Richard Glasby, said: “The presentation evening was an opportunity to celebrate the high level of success of our students.
“Our award winners should be very proud of their achievements which is a result of their commitment and determination to succeed.
“I would like to thank Sir Graham Bright for attending our special evening and sharing in our celebration.”
During the evening more than 130 students received certificates and praise in various categories.
Awards were given to those who secured 11 or more A* - C Grades at GCSE, for effort and achievement over the year, to acknowledge early entry examination success and to recognise 100 per cent attendance.
Grant Robinson was honoured for attaining an impressive 100 per cent attendance for his full five years at Hassenbrook.
Between the presentation of awards Year Seven students Amber Marshall and Jordan Whiting performed readings, Year 10 student Hannah Kiss sang solo and the school’s musician of the year Glen Hussey performed a drum improvisation.
Two Year Nine students Max Howlett and Brooke Hayward also spoke about recent experiences on a Respect Project outdoor activity course to entertain invited guests.
Worthy of particular note were six students Charlie Martin, Elinor Rew, Caroline Stoten, Grant Robinson, Jamie Dennis and Isla Montgomery who between them got 14 A*’s, 50 A’s, 20 B’s and eight C grades at GCSE.
Special Awards for excelling in particular areas of the curriculum were also presented to the following students at the close of the evening.
The Margaret Rumsey Award for Public Speaking - Lydia Cranefield Writer of the Year (donated by Mr P Wigington) - Talia Mackenzie The BP Cup for Science - Charlie Martin Award for Achievement in Modern Languages - Caroline Stoten Art and Design GCSE Exhibition Award - Jessica Lempriere The Link Gallery Award – Paige Boulos Excellence in Physical Education - Jamie Dennis Excellence in ICT - Grant Robinson Excellence in Humanities - Amy Nicklen Outstanding Achievement in Maths - Charlie Martin The Samuel Knutson Award for Outstanding Achievement in Drama - Lydia Cranefield Musician of the Year - Glen Hussey Beryl Jones Trophy - Tom Butler The David Foreman Award for Achievement in the Creative Arts - Hannah Parker The Margaret Rumsey Library Award - Jemma Salmons Intergen Trophy for Science, Technology and Mathematics - George Crudgington HSBC Trophy for Service to the School – Elinor Rew and Charlie Martin.
