Overnight parking restrictions victory for Little Thurrock residents

COUNCILLORS and residents of Little Thurrock were delighted to see a new overnight no parking zone come into force in Towers Road on November 28.

After years of being woken up late at night or in early hours of the morning by Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) using the industrial area as a lorry park, a new no parking zone has been established.

Little Thurrock ward councillor, Rob Gledhill, said: “Residents of all the homes that back onto the estate, or the roads leading to it, have had to put up with lorries thundering past at all times as drivers were using Towers Road as a free lorry park.

“They would turn up or leave at all times of the day and night with little to no regard for the residents living in the area waking them in the process.

“Some were even quite happy to use the fences and walls as toilets or peer into resident’s homes and gardens.”

The ban covers all of the industrial estate from Rectory Road to Cement Block Cottages preventing any vehicle over 7.5 tonnes parking overnight from 7pm to 7 am.

Coun Stuart St Clair Haslam said: “With alternative overnight HGV parking available in a couple of sites in West Thurrock there is no reason to park up here.

“I would urge HGV drivers to use these facilities to avoid having to pay a £70 fine.”

Thurrock Council’s Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, Coun Ben Maney, added: “Thurrock Council will be providing extended traffic enforcement cover not only for Towers Road but other no parking sites in the area.

“They will be working with the police and issue penalty charge notices where drivers are in contravention of the parking restrictions.”
