Pupils at East Tilbury Primary become Climate Cops

PUPILS at East Tilbury Primary School, on Princess Margaret Road, became Climate Cops on Monday with help from energy company NPower.

Joined by the mayor of Thurrock Councillor John Everett, the pupils spent the day learning about NPower’s new programme “Climate Cops” - an initiative aimed at children aged 7 to 11 which tells the story of three ordinary kids seeking out ways to save energy and help the planet.

The pupils learned what is energy waste is, how it can be prevented, and why it is important to save energy.

They also took part in environment-saving activities including using thermal imaging cameras, generating electricity with leg and arm power, and working with miniature examples of renewable energy sources.

Miss Dowling, Year Five teacher at East Tilbury Junior School said: “The Climate Cops Academy has taught the children about climate change and saving energy in a really fun, engaging way.

“They’ve learnt some simple ways to conserve energy that will make a big difference to the school, their homes and the environment.”

Councillor Everett said: “This is an important and timely issue, which is why we are supporting our schools to be not only good, improving and inclusive schools but also to become sustainable schools.

“It is the small things we can all do that add up to making a big difference and we hope this programme will work with other schools in the area to help reduce overall the amount of energy used.”
