Hair envy leads to magazine spread for Grays hairdresser Kate Barnard

A GRAYS hairdresser has been featured in a national women’s magazine after its readers said her client’s hair gave them “hair envy”.

Kate Barnard, 21, who works at the salon Laurens D’Auray on Orsett Road, made the final eight in Marie Claire’s L’Oreal Professional Hair Envy competition to be featured in the December issue of the glossy magazine.

More than 14,000 people entered the competition last summer in which L’Oreal Professional stylists were asked to send in photos of clients with “enviable” hair, then readers voted for the style that gave them “hair envy”.

Kate entered a picture of client Sophie Fitzmaurice for the competition, and was the winner of the South East Region.

She said: “Sophie would love pillar-box red hair, but because of her work, we compromised with a beautiful cherry red.”
