11 year old Girl hospitalised after car accident in Grays

AN 11-year-old girl from Grays was taken to hospital this morning following a collision with a car in Parker Road.

The ambulance service was called at about 8.23am and a rapid response vehicle, crew and manager were sent to the scene.

The girl was taken to Basildon Hospital with back pain.

Essex Police Spokesperson Donna Veasey said: "Police were called at about 8.25am following reports of a collision in Parker Road in Grays involving an 11-year-old girl from Grays and a car.

"She suffered only minor injuries but was taken by ambulance to Basildon Hospital."

The accident happened just 24 hours after Stifford Primary School launched a 'park and stride' walk to school scheme aimed at cutting congestion and the risk of accidents in Parker Road.

Headmaster Mark Jones said: ""I am just so grateful that the young girl is not seriously hurt and I am writing to parents today to let them know that, but it shows just how dangerous this road can be and the problems of traffic congestion that we have to deal with and are trying to alleviate."

The car was driven by a member of staff, who has been cleared of any blame by the police, but was said to be very shaken by the accident.
