State cinema campaigners to pay tribute to Roy Roberts

THE State Cinema Campaigners will be paying tribute to its former manager Roy Roberts to mark the twentieth anniversary of his death on November 5.

Former manager of the State Cinema, Roy Roberts, was a very well known and a much liked person at the cinema.

He did a huge amount of dedicated work to keep the cinema open during its final years of operation. When it finally closed in 1988 the building was due to be demolished but a group of cinema enthusiasts managed to save it and the cinema was granted a grade two listing by English Heritage.

Roy died on November 5 1988 and is buried with his parents in an unmarked grave at West Thurrock.

A tribute with details of his tragic death will be placed in the forum section of the State Cinema website at www.statecinema.co.uk.
