Grays girl Jenny Sawings earns her family a holiday with her photography skills

A TEN-year old girl from Grays has been named Young Nature Photographer of the Year in a national competition.

Jenny Sawings, of Lenthall Avenue, won the ‘Nature in Summer’ themed competition, run by toilet paper company Triple Velvet, with her picture of brightly coloured flowers which she took at the Royal Horticulture Society garden in Rettendon.

Celebrity judge model Nell McAndrew said of Jenny’s photo: “This picture summed up the theme ‘Nature in Summer’ more than any of the other shots.

“It is a well composed and colourful shot that brings a smile to my face.”

Jenny, who is a pupil at Little Thurrock Primary School, has won a family trip to a UK Center parcs Village as well as a digital camera and a photo printer.

Her proud father Bill said: “Jenny is really pleased, her camera has now become part of her left arm!”

“She has only just become interested in photography, she took a close-up picture of a bee on a flower in William Wordsworth’s garden on holiday in the Lake District and everyone was telling her how good it was and that’s how it started.”
