YEAR five and six pupils at Benyon Primary in South Ockendon have been busy campaigning for their school elections which took place last Friday.The pupils have been campaigning to improve different areas around the school and the whole school voted on Friday to decide which of the projects they would like to see put into action.
The pupils gave presentations, handed out manifestos and lobbied their peers to vote for the various projects.
They even borrowed a real ballot box and polling booths for the elections which were presided over by Julie Lawrence, the Chair of Governors, and her husband, Councillor Barrie Lawrence.
Councillor Lawrence, Councillor Diana Hale and Councillor John Kent spoke to the year 5 and 6 pupils and gave them some hints and advice on campaigning, making speeches and standing for election.
The winning party’s manifesto will be put into practice next term and improvements will be made to the area of the school that the pupils voted for.
