A GRAYS woman who sufferers with epilepsy has raised thousands of pounds for a charity supporting others like her with a fundraiser at the Orsett Hall.
Having to deal with regular fits at work and not being allowed to drive would get anyone down, but Dianna Piper, 26, is determined that epilepsy will not beat her.
She was inspired to hold a glitzy fundraiser at the Orsett Hall to raise awareness of the condition after attending a support group and hearing how other sufferers felt like people looked down on them, and how they rarely went out.
The event, held in the Grahame Thomas Pavilion on Friday October 17, featured a charity auction, raffle, a three course meal, and live music.
Dianna is still waiting for some final payments to come in but she has already collected £3000.
She is confident that she will get close to her original target of £5000 once everything is collected.
She said: “I want to thank everyone who came along and supported me, or made a generous donation to the event.
“Without your support the event would not have been possible and I hope that as well as enjoying yourselves it helped you to understand how common epilepsy is and how charities like Epilepsy Action need your help.”
She added: “I hope that the event served it’s purpose and I am not planning to stop there as I want to do everything I can to help support Epilepsy Action and try to help remove the Stigma surrounding the condition.”
Dianna still has some items which were not sold at the auction, including signed Eastenders pictures and a few football items, anyone who is interested in these can email her at here.
