George Turner will speak at new Heart patients support group

HEART patients are being encouraged to get involved with a new patient-led support group.

The aim of the group is to give anyone with a cardiac problem, their family members, friends or neighbours, support to move forward, make friends and help others.

The first meeting will be held at The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre at Basildon University Hospital, on Wednesday November 26 at 7pm.

The guest speaker will be George Turner, who will share his experiences as Chairman of Take Heart, a Southend-based Cardiac Support Group.

During this meeting people can nominate themselves for key positions such as Chairman and Treasurer.

Cardiac rehabilitation lead sister, Donna Jessup, said: “The aim of the group is to support people who have experienced heart problems to move onwards and upwards, by doing something positive.

“The members will be able to support each other through social events, fundraising events and so on.

“It’s their chance to give something back to the community and other cardiac patients.”

Anyone from the area can join in at the monthly meetings, which will be held at a local community venue once this initial meeting has taken place.

If you would like to attend the first meeting, please call 0845 155 3111 ext 4076.
