PARALYMPIC gold medallist Danny Crates has taken time out of his busy training schedule to help Little Havens Children’s Hospice launch a new fundraising initiative.
Danny, who won an 800m Paralympic Gold Medal in Athens in 2004, is the charity’s patron.
The 35 year-old, who now lives in Maldon but is originally from Corringham and attended Gable Hall School, is giving his blessing to its new website to help supporters collect donations.
Little Giving is a dedicated sponsorship page of the charity’s website.
It will allow people undertaking any type of challenge for the hospice to set up a personalised page, e-mail it to friends and colleagues around the world and invite them to make a sponsorship pledge direct to the charity.
Whether people are climbing a mountain, running a marathon, doing a bungee jump or taking part in a sponsored slim, fundraisers can upload photos, input diary entries and keep their supporters updated via this special site, making it as individual and eye-catching as they wish.
Danny said: “This is a great way for people to raise money for Little Havens Children’s Hospice.
“Simply choose your challenge, set up a page, e-mail your contacts and wait for the sponsorship to roll in.
“It’s simple but effective, allowing you to concentrate on your fundraising event.
“I am privileged to have visited the hospice and seen first-hand the care they provide to local children and families.
“It truly is a worthy cause and I am proud to be involved.”
Head of Marketing Hermoyone Dukes added: “This site is similar to the national version called Just Giving.
However, people setting up a page directly with us will mean sponsorship will be coming directly to the charity, therefore reducing our administrative costs.”
